Crandon Park Beach is an idyllic spot located at the northern end of Key Biscayne. Its two-mile-long stretch of pristine dunes and sea oats makes it one of my favorite places to unwind.
This beach is a paradise for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking to relax. You’ll find everything you need here, from chair and umbrella rentals to barbecue grills, concession stands, picnic areas, and even volleyball courts. For a more luxurious experience, private cabanas with a shower and designated parking spots are available. Additionally, the beach offers accessibility features, including beach wheelchairs, ensuring everyone can enjoy its beauty.
For a brief period, there has been an advisory on swimming on the north side. But on July 20, the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County lifted the advisory for Crandon Park North Beach. The advisory, issued earlier due to high bacterial levels in the seawater, was lifted after recent tests showed that the water quality met acceptable state guidelines.

Safety measures at Crandon Park are generally robust, with lifeguards on duty and clear signage about water conditions. There has been this recent incident on July 19, when a shark near Crandon Park Beach bit a child. Fortunately, the boy did not require hospitalization, he was treated on the scene and was okay. But that should not deter you from plunging into the water, just don’t forget to read all the advisories. The park also offers safety workshops, including basic first aid and water safety tips, ensuring visitors are well-informed about potential risks and how to handle them.

Exploring Activities and Wildlife
The first thing that caught my attention was the diverse wildlife at Crandon Park. Walking through the park, I came across mangroves, coastal hammocks, and seagrass beds. As a bird watcher, spotting limpkins and green herons was a real treat.
The park offers kayaking, paddleboarding, and kiteboarding for those looking for more active pursuits. Remember, personal paddleboards and kayaks should be launched from the Crandon Park Marina on the bayside, not directly from the beach.

Biking Through Crandon Park
Cycling enthusiasts will love Crandon Park. The park offers a range of biking experiences, from leisurely rides through scenic trails to more structured bike adventures. I joined the Crandon Bike Adventure, a guided tour covering four miles of the park. The tour includes stops at Crandon Gardens, Crandon Park Beach, Bear Cut Preserve, and the Crandon Park Visitors & Biscayne Nature Center. It was exciting.
Crandon Gardens, once part of the Miami Zoo, is a hidden gem within the park. It has exotic plants, animals, and historical structures that add an element of intrigue to the biking experience. The park’s trails are well-maintained and suitable for all skill levels, ensuring a pleasant ride through lush landscapes and coastal views.

The Scenic Rickenbacker Trail
The Rickenbacker Trail is a must-try. This long, scenic route stretches from Miami to Key Biscayne and features dedicated bike lanes and paved paths. The trail runs parallel to the road, making it a safer alternative for recreational bikers. It spans various attractions, including Virginia Key and Hobie Beach Park, and culminates in Crandon Park, offering breathtaking views and numerous recreational opportunities along the way.
Along the Rickenbacker Trail, you’ll find breathtaking viewpoints, perfect for photography or a peaceful rest stop. The trail further leads to the Miami Seaquarium and the historic Virginia Key Beach Park.
Crandon Park Beach offers exciting activities and natural beauty. With its recent improvements and ongoing commitment to safety and accessibility, it continues to be a top choice for locals and tourists alike.
